Tour Itinerary
We will pick you up from your Hotel/cottage at 7.00 am. You will drive to Ramisi River, where you will go on a canoe trip. You will spot multiple types of birds flying overhead, making this trip a lot more romantic. Vegetation density absorbs noise from other areas making this excursion surprisingly quiet. Therefore, it is perfect for couples on bonding trips.
After the boat trip, you will stop on the sandbank, which gives you access to one of the most beautiful swimming spots on the island. This little piece of paradise gives you access to warm water, bright sand, and bird calls to make your swim more relaxing.
You will see the famous Funzi ‘Lost Paradise’ sandbars at low tide. Therefore, you can try your hand at sand bathing.
You can also go creek fishing. There are multiple creeks on the island, and you can go fishing at one of them. The shallow calm waters are ideal for catching healthy fish, which you can release or cook up for an authentic experience.
The locals can take you on their canoes, where you can learn about their fishing techniques. It is a genuine experience that will create an amazing memory.
Later, we will go to the Funzi Island village. During this trip, you can take time to interact with the locals. You can learn about how they survive without these modern-day advancements. You will visit major spots in the village, including the witch doctors who cure the villagers of all ailments.
Additionally, you can try some of the local food and drink. Do not skip out on ‘wali wa mnazi,’ rice prepared with coconut milk from the coconuts that grow on the island. During your iterations, you can also get lovely souvenirs.
The locals make baskets, hats, crafts, artifacts, jewelry, and even traditional clothes such as lesos. These are ideal souvenirs to remember your trip. And all profits go to keeping the villagers thriving. Then, the driver will take you back to your hotel/cottage arriving at 5.00 pm.

We will take you on a scenic trip throughout the town, visiting major sites like Fort Jesus, Haller Park, and the elephant tusks on Moi Avenue. Here is what you can expect:
Fort Jesus Outside Tour
You will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site in southern east Mombasa, Fort Jesus. This historical site has been standing for centuries and remains pretty impressive.
It attracts hundreds of visitors every day. You will tour the outside of the fort, taking pictures and learning about the heritage site. You can also enjoy some street food from vendors.
Old Town
Old Town is full of architectural gems. The buildings have a lot of Asian, European, and Arab influences. Some have been standing for centuries!
You will take a stroll through the streets, admiring the buildings, taking pictures, and interacting with locals. You can also visit some of the charming cafes for Kenyan-style meals.
Market
Next, you will visit a tourist market in town where you will get an array of food, clothing, and souvenirs. You can get fresh fish, species, fruits, and other authentic Kenyan ingredients to try your hand at some local recipes. You can also get handmade jewelry, baskets, clothes, crafts, and even shoes.
Elephant Tusks
The famous elephant tusks are the symbol of Mombasa. They are two pairs of elephant tusks along Moi Avenue that have been standing for years. The giant tusks were built to commemorate Princess Margaret’s visit and are now a famous landmark. You will visit the tusks, take pictures, and get up close to see the immaculate design elements.
Hindu Temple
Next, you will visit Lord Shiva Temple. This famous Hindu temple is a spectacular architectural masterpiece that attracts visitors every day. You will visit the marvelous meditation and worship center, where you can participate in some of the rituals and prayers. Visitors are encouraged to participate before moving to the next location.
Lunch
Expect a lovely lunch in the early afternoon. It is an opportunity to try Kenyan-style cuisine, including fresh seafood caught by local fishermen. You could try wet fry Tilapia with ugali. You can also get some side dishes such as samosa and mahamri, popular among locals. And do not skip out on the Mnazi, a traditional alcoholic beverage.
Haller Park
Haller Park is the nature park in Bamburi Mombasa. It was initially a quarry wasteland that turned into an ecological area with multiple plants and animal species. This recreational spot is home to crocodiles, giraffes, hippos, and an array of trees, including eucalyptus, date palm, coconut, and baobab. You can also visit the restaurants to try exotic steaks and seafood.
Your 1-day trip to the town should end with a transfer back to your accommodations, where you can continue your beach-destination trip.
