You will arrive, and we will pay park fees for you so you can go on a game drive with a local operator. On the game drive, expect to see herds of elephants. Shimba Hills National Reserve is the only place you will see the Sable Antelope. You will also drive to the magnificent Sheldrick Falls for a spectacular view of the majestic waterfall. Expect to see dense rainforest featuring a diversity of plant species. Wildlife interactions will be more authentic and adventurous.

Shimba Hills National Reserve

Shimba Hills National Reserve is a 300km squared land of dense rainforest protected by the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS). Wildlife encounters here are more spectacular, thanks to the dense forest.

The reserve hosts herds of elephants and the rarely-seen Sable Antelope. It also has diverse plant species. Shimba Hills also hosts the remarkable Sheldrick Falls, named after the late David Sheldrick. David Sheldrick founded the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

What to bring?

Your day will be met with warm tropical temperatures since Shimba Hills is suited slightly inland from the coast. Therefore, bring sun protection in the form of sunglasses, sunscreen, and hats.

You should also bring a camera to take pictures at the waterfall and to capture the stills of the animals. Wear light clothing as temperatures rise in the afternoon.

These large, striking antelopes, with their long, curved horns and contrasting black and white markings, are a true highlight of any visit. Seeing them gracefully navigating the forest glades is a sight to remember.

02 / 05

African Elephant

Shimba Hills boasts one of the highest densities of elephants in Kenya. These gentle giants often roam the forests and grasslands in search of food and water. Observing their social interactions, from playful calves to matriarchs leading their families, provides a unique insight into their complex lives.
